ITA Code of Ethics & Professional Standards

Preamble

The International Trading Association (ITA) is committed to promoting professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, and responsible participation across the global trading industry.

The ITA Code of Ethics & Professional Standards establishes a framework of principles designed to support trust, transparency, competence, and long-term professional development within modern financial and trading-related industries.

All ITA members, certified professionals, institutional participants, and affiliated individuals are expected to uphold these standards in their professional activities.

Violations of the Code may result in disciplinary review, suspension, or revocation of ITA membership or certification status.

I. Professional Integrity

  • Act honestly, fairly, and responsibly in all professional activities
  • Avoid fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading conduct
  • Maintain professionalism when interacting with clients, colleagues, employers, and the public
  • Promote ethical behavior within the industry

II. Compliance & Responsibility

  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations within their jurisdictions
  • Avoid knowingly participating in unlawful or unethical activities
  • Exercise reasonable professional judgment and responsibility
  • Maintain awareness of compliance obligations relevant to their roles

III. Professional Competence

  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills
  • Pursue continuous learning and industry development
  • Perform duties with diligence, care, and competence
  • Avoid providing services beyond their professional capability

IV. Fairness & Transparency

  • Communicate information clearly and fairly
  • Avoid misrepresentation of services, experience, or qualifications
  • Disclose relevant conflicts of interest when appropriate
  • Promote transparency and responsible communication practices

V. Confidentiality & Data Responsibility

  • Respect confidential information obtained through professional activities
  • Protect sensitive personal, operational, and organizational data
  • Avoid unauthorized disclosure of confidential information
  • Handle information responsibly and securely

VI. Professional Conduct

  • Members shall not engage in dishonest or unethical behavior
  • Members shall not abuse professional position or influence
  • Members shall not misrepresent certifications, memberships, or professional standing
  • Members shall not conduct activities that may seriously damage the reputation of the profession or the Association

VII. Responsibility to the Industry

  • Support the long-term integrity and sustainability of the trading industry
  • Contribute positively to professional standards and responsible market practices
  • Encourage ethical conduct and professionalism within their organizations and communities

VIII. Use of ITA Membership & Certification

  • Do not misrepresent ITA certification status
  • Do not use ITA branding in a misleading manner
  • Do not imply regulatory approval or government endorsement
  • Do not exaggerate the scope or meaning of ITA membership or certification

IX. Disciplinary Review

ITA reserves the right to review potential violations of this Code and may take disciplinary actions including:

  • Warning
  • Suspension
  • Revocation of certification
  • Termination of membership
